New Personal Best Set at Mission Raceway Park - 6.03 @ 227 mph

Sitko Brothers Take Part in Historical Event
32 Funny Cars Descend On Mission Raceway Park for Biggest Show in Western Canada

Sitting on the concrete surface of Mission Raceway Park on Saturday, July 23rd, 2011, were 32 of the Northwest's best nostalgia funny car teams - a photo opportunity no drag racing photographer would miss. Nathan and Troy Sitko definately did not want to miss it and what a sight it was! The Team Ace Racing nitro funny car run by the brothers along with their family and close friends looked right at home all weekend long and the team got even more excited while a dozen or so photographers and hundreds of drag racing fans took snapshots of one of the biggest funny car shows ever to hit Western Canada. All floppers were called to the lanes one hour before run time and they were rolled onto the track for the photo (a couple teams even fired their machines up).

An hour later, the Sitko machine was on the track and the red and white of Ace Manufacturing flew down the quarter mile in 6.03 seconds at 223 miles per hour in a run against longtime friend and fellow funny car pilot, Mike Grekul (see above picture). This wasn't the only great 6.0 second pass for the team on this weekend. They followed this run up with a great 6.06 at 226.98 miles per hour. And, during testing\licensing the day before, Troy cracked the quarter mile in 6.07 seconds and 6.15 seconds, earning his Nitro Funny Car license.

The team qualified 7th out of the very quick field and had a tough opponent in Chilliwack, BC resident, Tim Nemeth and his nasty looking Mustang. The team hopped up on the tune-up quite a bit and ended up smoking the tires in their first round match up. Tim went on to run a great 6.00 second pass. The great runs and the great company of all these funny car competitors made for an amazing weekend and it is surely an event the team won't miss in the future.

The team would like to thank their sponsor Jet Tools for putting up some cash for the racers to compete for. We would also like to thank Team Ace Racing and all of our other sponsors at helping us get this far so quickly! Also, a big thank you to Bill Ade for accomodating us all weekend and Eddie Godwin for getting your hands dirty on our race car. We owe you guys big time! And, of course, Speedzone Magazine has great coverage of the event. Thank you to Dean Murdoch for his support and exposure for our sport.

Next up is Hot August Night in Edmonton at Castrol Raceway August 10th. Can anyone else smell a "5" on the horizon?

Mid-Season Review
Team Ace Racing Nitro Funny Car Team Heading West for Second Half of Race Season

After a short break since the IHRA Rocky Mountain Nationals, brothers Nathan and Troy Sitko are bringing their Nitro-burning 1977 Plymouth Arrow out to Mission Raceway Park in Mission, British Columbia for the NHRA Canadian National Open, where there will be more than 32 funny cars entertaining the West Coasters. The brothers, along with their father, Ken and grandfather, George have been making great strides in the tuning department all year long, just barely missing the very quick field at the Rocky Mountain Nationals in their hometown. The Sitko Family Racing team is very pleased with their progress in the very popular Nostalgia Nitro Funny Car class and are very excited about their prospects at this weekends event in BC. The track in Mission is sticky, smooth and fast and it will surely be another weekend of personal bests for the young owners of the Alberta based team.

Crew members Lenard Smith, Randy Rokosh, Pete Gillis and Mark Day have been working feverishly and their between rounds maintanence time shows. The team has really started to gel as of late and the car is always ready to go well in advance of every round. Once back to the pit area, the team lifts the Arrow body off of the Plueger chassis and gets the car onto stands. The oil and left over fuel are quickly drained by Pete while Randy performs a leak down test on each cylinder and then proceeds to set valve lash. Lenard gets all the tools prepped to check bearings and, as soon as the valve covers go back on, Pete joins him and they go through the "bottom end." Mark, in the meantime, pulls the transmission out of the car and removes the clutch can so the clutch discs may be sanded and the clutch floaters changed to fresh ones. By the time the clutch is out of the race car, the boys are done checking the bearings and have buttoned the oil pan back onto the hemi. The clutch discs are sanded by Troy and the clutch is put back into the car.

In the meantime, Nathan and Ken have been analyzing the data from the run before and they call Troy over for a quick tune-up decision. Randy and Mark run over every part of the race car, making sure all bolts are secure and they address anything that is of concern. Nathan now moves over to the clutch to set it up for the next run while Ken changes fuel nozzles and all of the other engine tune-up changes that they have decided on. Troy gets the parachutes all straightened up and folded into their packs. Lenard goes into the trailer and mixes 15-gallons of nitromethane\methanl mixture (around 90%) for the upcoming run while Pete fill the oil tank with about the same amount of oil. Just remember, the car uses most of this fuel and the oil is garbage after every single run. Everyone else bolts everything else back onto the car and gives it a good once over, making sure there are no missing pieces. Everybody double checks everything so that there are no mistakes when it comes to the next round.

After the body is put on the car, it's rolled up into the staging lanes, either Nathan or Troy (whomever is driving that weekend) gets buckled up, the car is started by Randy and Lenard, a burnout, then onto another personal best run. We definately appreciate everyone's efforts and we know it will pay off huge and very soon.

It takes a lot of patience and a lot of teamwork to do this 3 or 4 times a day over a three-day race weekend. The team is really excited about the future and what it holds and the next step comes tonight, when the team hops into the truck and tows down to the Canadian National Open. We hope to see you all there!

Fire It Up!
Sitko Family Racing Team Nearing Completion of Nitro Funny Car

It has been all hands on deck at the Sitko Racing shop in Edmonton, Alberta. The team's nitro-breathing newborn about to be dropped off its stands and rolled into the trailer to be driven away to a funny car friendly site so the team can put some fire in the pipes for the first time in 2011 has the team fired up themselves.

The winter season has been a long one and brothers Troy and Nathan Sitko have made the most of it. In the fall, the brothers partnered up with Ace Manufacturing, joining the Team Ace Racing family of Harold Parfett. Immediately, the search began for a new race car and Ken Sitko, Troy and Nathan's dad, headed down to California to meet up with his father and team patriarch, George. There they checked out a couple of funnies, and settled on a Plueger Chassis with a 1977 Plymouth Arrow body, formerly called "Nitro Psycho."

Ken and George worked on the car in Los Angeles and it was finally brought home by Ken, Troy, Nathan and crew member, Mark Day. The four, along with additional crew members Lenard Smith, Pete Gillis and Randy Rokosh stripped the hot rod bare and started from scratch, bringing the car up to National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) standards. By mid-January, the car was inspected by an NHRA technical official and given a seal of approval.

By the end of February, the team had the 414 cubic inch hemi in the car and all of the additional parts and pieces could be added on. The Littlefield supercharger, the Sitko magneto drive, the Waterman fuel pump, the System 1 oil pump & filter, and Cirello magneto added a definite look of cool to the previously bare chassis. New safety items were added, such as Strange carbon fibre brakes, Leahy's automatic safety shutoff, a moulded driver's seat, 7-point Taylor seat belts and brand new DJ fire bottles.

April has definitely been the busiest month. The crew has been in the shop a lot this month. Nathan has been finishing his instalment of the Auto Meter Data Logger, Ken has been busy building spare motors, Troy has been diligently working around assisting every one and building the team's schedule, Randy and Lenard have been fabricating mounts for all of the different pieces being attached to the car and Mark and Pete have mounted new tires, had them balanced and are gearing up for the newly painted body to arrive so the team can add their finishing touches to it.

As for our opening number, George and Ken have been working together to find an initial tune-up for the power plant and the team plans to be at Castrol Raceway just outside Edmonton to knock the butterflies out and then it's a trip to the Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the team's first official race in the AA\FC class.

The team would like to thank all of the support of our fans and racers during this long, long winter season and we can't wait to be back at the track! The Sitko brothers would also like to thank their support group: Irene, Shelley, Carla and Brittany Sitko as well as Rod Elliot for his hands on help at the shop, Dave Boucher for delivering the body to the paint booth for us and the whole Team Ace Racing family for their support.

Sitko Family Racing Turning Up the Volume in 2011
Sitko Brothers Gearing Up for Their Turn in Nitro Funny Car

The Sitko Family Racing team of Edmonton, Alberta and Ace Manufacturing have partnered-up for the 2011 season and beyond to participate in the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) Hot Rod Heritage Racing Series. Team owners and siblings Troy and Nathan Sitko along with crew chiefs Ken and George Sitko are making the move to Nostalgia Funny Car, a class including pre-1980 American bodied nitro-burning funny cars. The team is very excitedly working away to prepare their new Plueger chassis and 1977 Plymouth Arrow body for the season ahead and they are very excited about their partnership with Team Ace Racing.

Team patriarch, George Sitko has been drag racing for 50 years. He has turned the wrenches on nearly every four-wheeled type of car that NHRA drag racing has to offer. George will be travelling with the team in 2011 as he and his son, Ken will be sharing the tuning duties on the new funny car. Ken's sons, Troy and Nathan are the team owners and both are very excited to have the two responsible for introducing them to the sport at the track with them for every event. While George and Ken will be taking care of how the engine runs, Troy Sitko (28) will carry the position of Car Chief, which means he will be making sure the car itself is in top shape. Nathan Sitko (25) will be making the cockpit his home again in 2011, beginning his 18th season behind the wheel, which includes 7 years in Top Alcohol Funny Car, 2 years in Top Alcohol Dragster and 8 years in junior dragster.

The '77 Arrow body will be painted in the very recognizable Team Ace red and white colors and logo when the car rolls out of the trailer and into its pit spot for testing in Edmonton in early May. This marks the beginning of a very exciting partnership between Team Ace Racing and Sitko Family Racing. Ace Manufacturing's Harold Parfett is a true drag racer at heart and he and the Sitko family are heading into the 2011 season with the intention of having a very competitive nitro funny car. Paired up with a very racer-friendly sponsor like Ace and the experience of their grandfather and father, the Sitko brothers are ready to make some noise and go some rounds, starting with the Las Vegas Speed Spectacular at the Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, May 28 and 29. The team will also be attending events at their home track in Edmonton, Alberta and a few more throughout western Canada and the northwest United States.

Sitko Family Racing would also like to welcome back Commercial Solutions, Pro Stock Performance and Jet Tools as associate sponsors for the 2011 racing season.

Currently, Ken Sitko is preparing the teams spare motor, George Sitko is doing some finishing touches on a whole lot of pieces for the team's new car and Troy and Nathan Sitko are preparing the new chassis and body for next race season.
